The Fear Poem [Audio]

This recently discovered poem on FEAR. has been added to my healing kit. The CD version was originally shared by Don Shatterly, a male sexual abuse survivor and PTSD warrior on his Mind, Body and Thoughts blog.

Here is Joy Harjo performing her “Fear Poem”. Warning: this contains some graphic language. Harjo writes from the ancestral memory of a violently colonized people.

In recognition of her contributions to poetry, The Poetry Foundation just announced Joy Harjo, a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, is the winner of the 2017 Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, which honors a living U.S. poet for lifetime achievement. The award comes with a $100,000 cash prize.
